I am in love with the simple thoughtful gestures that can bring a smile to my little family's faces everyday. When my babes were tiny babes they both had oil burners in their bedrooms that I used with tea lights (out of reach of course!). In the morning upon waking I would light an invigorating aroma to bring cheer & liveliness to the day & in the evening at feeding/story-time/bedtime I would use a sleepy soothing aroma with a small candle for settling.

Shortly after seeing great results from using aromatherapy I started to use aroma's in different ways, one of which was on our clothing & bed linens. One way to do this is by adding drops of essential oils to the rinse cycle. I prefer making up several bottles of Homemade Linen Spray & using them either before the linens are hung, after the linens are dry before they are folded or after I put the sheets & pillow cases onto the bed (esp good if being used for a specific illness or sleeping issue).
Linen Spray Recipe:
1. Combine the 3 oz Vodka and 1.5 Cups Distilled Water into a jar.
2. Add 30 drops of any combination of essential oils.
3. Put the lid on the jar and shake to combine all liquids.
4. Using the funnel, pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
Here are some great Aroma's to start with...
Sleep
Jasmine, is famed for its aphrodisiac properties, but historically jasmine has also been prized for its calming sedative effect, and was used to treat depression, stress & anxiety.
Chamomile is known to ease tension and promote relaxation, of both the mind and body, and in addition to working as a sleep-aid, its calming influence has been recommended to ease the emotional symptoms of PMS and menopause.
The lovely scent of vanilla has long been recognized for its anti-depressant and tranquilizing qualities, lowering blood pressure and promoting feelings of well being and calm.
Lavender has been recognized as an effective sleep aid through generations of folk medicine and recent studies show that it is more effective in female subjects.
Illness
Rose Otto is known for it's ability to treat hay fever & asthma. Isn't it BEAUTIFUL!
Frankincense is good for infections because of it's ant-bacterial properties and is often used for people with respiratory congestion.
Eucalyptus is well known for it's use as a decongestant & for respiratory disorders. It also works to reduce fevers and it has anti-viral & anti-bacterial properties. One amazing fact, it scares away head lice from hair!
Sandalwood is great for sore throats and is a great sedative when restless.
Peppermint oil cools fevers & is a great decongestant. It can also help colic & aid with digestive issues.
Mood
Grapefruit oil works for mood-balancing & calms overstimulated children, oh yay :)
Tangerine does the exact same thing!
St. John's Wort in oil form is a good mood-enhancer, hormone balancer & aids in treating ear infections.
Hope you guys have fun creating these ♥ Stay Happy! xo
